Drawing from theories of critical media literacy, this interactive workshop will examine the contentious 2016 United States’ presidential election and its aftermath, including current events topics on the state of the administration. Participants will explore the basics of critical media literacy as well as review the state of mainstream/corporate news and alternative/nontraditional news using concepts and understandings of critical media literacy. Participants will leave with a foundational understanding of critical media literacy that they will be able to apply to their own positions as media audiences as well as to their own professional development.
